At the dawn of the 20th century, a new music was born in New Orleans. It was a 'good time' music, created to make the people happy. Its appeal was so immediate that the music soon swept the whole country and then circled the globe. Thompson, who first gained fame as the house pianist and staff bandleader on “The Prairie Home Companion,” is a traditional New Orleans jazz master, a pianist whose command of the music of Jelly Roll Morton, Fats Waller, Scott Joplin and other giants of the field is unsurpassed. |
