American Idol” meets St Peter as Maine’s Emerging Artists Program presents a fully costumed and staged performance of Edwin Penhorwood’s comic opera.

Four operatic divas arrive in heaven to learn that there is not enough room for all of them in the heavenly choir because too many basses and tenors wound up in hell. Only one of the sopranos will be allowed into the chorus, so they must audition, much to the horror of the four sopranos. The plot is resolved in the riotous second act after much rejoicing and promises to St. Peter that they will never sing opera again.
